Committee Chair, Live Experiences

At Alterna, our mission is to empower Learners all around the globe with accessible, free, and high‑quality computer science curricula, made possible by our team of high-agency remote volunteers.

As a Chair, you’ll organise and lead committee sessions in the upcoming Alterna Artificial Intelligence Model United Nations, (AAIMUN) a fully remote MUN conference. In addition, you’ll ensure fair participation and maintain the flow of conference activities according to the MUN Rules of Procedure.

Currently, the committees within AAIMUN are the General Assembly, ECOSOC, Human Rights Council, and the Security Council.

This role will take place in Summer 2026 onwards, with an expected Conference Weekend in June 25 & 26th, 2026. No prior experience in live event operations is required, although it is a strong plus.

This is a remote asynchronous-first unpaid volunteering position.

You'll get to

  • Direct the flow of debate sessions
  • Manage speaker lists
  • Enforce Rules of Procedure (RoPs)
  • Address points of order or personal privilege
  • Trigger crisis situations for discussion
  • Evaluate delegate performance
  • Submit post-conference metadata

You'll learn to

  • Moderate discussions between participants considering differing viewpoints
  • Strong leadership and group management skills
  • Insight into the workings of the UN and multilateral decision-making

We seek that you have

  • At least 16 years of age
  • Prior MUN experience as a delegate
  • Solid knowledge of MUN RoPs and the broader UN system
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Comfort and confidence speaking in public
  • Ability to remain neutral and professional at all times
  • Good organisational skills and attention to detail

  • Prior MUN experience as a chair
  • High creativity, agency, and emotional intelligence
  • Background in computer science, AI, or related fields
  • Ability to thoughtfully integrate AI tools into workflows
  • Strong focus on outcomes
