At Alterna, our mission is to empower Learners all around the globe with accessible, free, and high‑quality computer science curricula, made possible by our team of high-agency remote volunteers.
As a Story Writer, you’ll have the creative lead in the immersive narrative and detailed world surrounding the upcoming Alterna Artificial Intelligence Model United Nations, (AAIMUN) a fully remote MUN conference. You’ll build the lore, backstories, and ongoing storylines that ties the MUN committees with the real-world consequences of AI.
Currently, the committees within AAIMUN are the General Assembly, ECOSOC, Human Rights Council, and the Security Council.
This role will take place in Summer 2026 onwards, with an expected Conference Weekend in June 25 & 26th, 2026. No prior experience in live event operations is required, although it is a strong plus.
This is a remote asynchronous-first unpaid volunteering position with extended benefits.
You'll get to
- Write committee-specific lore and dynamic crisis scenarios
- Create consistent timelines, faction profiles, and backstories
- Produce engaging narrative updates to be played during the conference such as breaking news to keep the story dynamic
- Provide guidance to personnel on how to engage with the established lore during sessions
You'll learn to
- Understand the role of narrative design in educational simulations like MUN
- Collaborate when working with a large team to integrate creative elements into operational plans
- Build worlds with substantive content
We seek that you have
- At least 16 years of age
- High creativity, agency, and emotional intelligence
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Exceptional organisational skills and attention to detail
- Familiarity with cyberpunk media
- Comfortability with in-house AI tools reacting to narratives within your writing
We prefer if you have

- Strong creative writing portfolio or experience in world-building, or narrative design
- Some background in Model United Nations, international relations, or related fields
- Ability to thoughtfully integrate AI tools into workflows
- Strong focus on outcomes
